St. Louis Blues faithful follow team to Sweden

It wasn’t long ago when the Blues were handing out tickets to their regular-season opener so the club could fill Scottrade Center.
“What a difference it will be Friday,” enforcer Cam Janssen said.
In a sign of how far the Blues have traveled in the minds of fans, or better, how far fans will travel to see them now, the team will play its 2009-10 season opener against the Detroit Red Wings today roughly 4,600 air miles away in a sold-out Globe Arena.
The puck drops at 2:05 p.m. St. Louis time, and fans are being welcomed to Scottrade Center to watch the game on the jumbotron.
“Whoever thought the Blues would be over in Stockholm playing against the Detroit Red Wings?” goalie Ben Bishop asked.
Janssen and Bishop are both native St. Louisans who sulked along with Blues fans when the franchise went through one of its leanest eras from 2005-2007.
Janssen was a member of the New Jersey Devils and wasn’t in town much, but he was always reminded about the depressive state of the team he watched growing up.
